| 22 June 2010 | Toyota Auris Hybrid : It Makes Sense |
Toyota do seem to have the knack of producing cars that resonate with the mood of the moment and there is no better example of this than the timing of the launch of the Auris Hybrid on 1 July 2010.
Evaluating how we as a country live and spend dominates the UK headlines and Toyota chips in with a car that offers calm and sensibility in this mad financial maelstrom.
Even the car’s name Auris makes sense – a combination of the word aurum from the Latin meaning gold and the word aura meaning halo of light because this car does set the gold standard.
The Auris HSD brings the extraordinarily refined Hybrid Synergy Drive experience to the mainstream model customer base for the first time in the UK. The car is always powered by an electric motor, the source coming from the battery or the generator.
In traffic its inbuilt stop start system allows for the car to run in electric mode which will give a return of 74.3 mpg and overall under various road conditions an average and very attractive 60mpg can be expected. Add in low emissions, zero road tax, everyday usability, driving comfort, remarkable quietness and the result is a car that asks, "Why not?"
It will have equal appeal to both low mileage owner drivers and high mileage company car drivers. The batteries are warranted for 8 years or 100,000 miles and with less moving parts and increased brake pad life due to regenerative braking together with a reduction in benefit in kind tax for the company car driver, it ticks all the boxes. Toyota’s 5 year warranty which is offered as standard across all new cars is testament to the manufacturer’s commitment to quality and peace of mind for the customer.
‘Built in Britain’ is not something you see that often any more but this car is fully and completely built here, helping to secure the employment of over 4,000 people who work in Burnaston, Derby and the engine plant at Deeside, North Wales.
See, it makes sense.
